The Interlopers

Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym are bitter enemies, who have been embroiled in a long standing family feud that dates back for generations. The conflict involves a narrow strip of precipitous land that borders both of their properties. Each man claims the steep little strip of land is his and has accused the other of being an interloper on his property.

One night Ulrich is out patrolling his grounds, hunting for Georg, whom he believes is desecrating his land. Suddenly, in a dark, lonely isolated area of forest, the two marauders come face to face. Filled with antagonism for each other, the men are intent on murdering one another.  Before they can shoot, however, a tree falls, pinning both men to the ground. At first, each claims his men will show up first and kill the other.

Soon, however, in pain and languor, the men realize the foolishness of their feud and finally acquiesce to making peace and pledging eternal friendship. Together they lay and wait for help that will bring relief and succor, but will they ever be rescued?
